Godwin, Bruce
Godwin, Bruce Playfair April 12, 1940 – Oct. 5, 2025. Bruce passed away peacefully in hospital in Collingwood at the age of 85 years. Bruce was born and raised in Toronto where he worked for CIBC before receiving his Engineering degree from Queen’s University. He retired after many years as Plant Manager at Union Carbide to enjoy life on his country property in Creemore. There he pursued his lifetime interest in nature as well as being a steward for the Creemore Nature Preserve. When he was not out on his tractor, planting trees, clearing trails or gathering firewood, Bruce could be found skiing down the slopes, throwing rocks at the Curling Club or hitting a long drive on the golf course. Travel took him far and wide on adventures with Anne, but he was happiest being with family and friends at “the farm,” out on the trails or joining them in their many activities. He was always willing to lend a helping hand. Bruce is survived by his wife and best friend, Anne, with whom he shared 59 wonderful years and by his two sons Richard (Shari) and Robert (Christine) and grandchildren Brendan, Alex, Brooke and Nate. He is predeceased by his two older brothers, Stuart and Tom. There will be no funeral service. In lieu of flowers a donation would be greatly appreciated to the Collingwood General and Marine Hospital Foundation or the Nature Conservancy of Canada.
