Wasaga Community Theatre Presents The Stand

 In Events

For its fall production, Wasaga Community Theatre presents, The Stand, a witty and warm new play by Canadian playwright Jennifer Walton. The show opens Nov. 7.

Set in a peaceful lakeside town, The Stand explores what happens when a cherished patch of woodland is threatened by a proposed housing development. As neighbours take opposing stances, old friendships are tested and hidden tensions surface. At the heart of the story is Louise Wilson, a lifelong birdwatcher who never envisioned stepping into the role of activist, and her best friend Justine, whose husband is behind the development. The stakes rise as family loyalties, personal convictions, and community values clash, weaving a story that is by turns humorous, poignant, and surprisingly revealing.

Praised as both “funny” and “heartfelt,” The Stand brings together themes of friendship, family, activism, and the unexpected ways communities can unite when something worth protecting is at stake.

“The Stand challenges us to think about what it means to take a stand— not just publicly, but in our relationships and our everyday lives,” said director Laura LaChapelle.

The show opens Nov. 7 at the RecPlex in Wasaga Beach, and continues until Nov. 16. For tickets, visit wasagacommunitytheatre.com.
