Golf ladies raise food bank funds

Organizers of the recent Ladies Members Guest Day at Mad River Golf Club paid a visit to St. Luke’s Community Food Bank with a cheque for $2,585.

Carrie Stinson and Michelle Meneley represented the members who raised the funds during a tournament with proceeds going to the food bank, which is located at St. Luke’s Anglican Church.

Food bank manager, Rev. Lorna May received the donation, which will help feed the 52 families who currently rely on the service.

“We always need peanut-free snacks, puddings and juice boxes and Honey Nut Cheerios,” said May. “We are fortunate to have the support of local businesses like A&D Birdseed which provides us with fresh eggs, and the owners of the farm market near Cashtown Corners who collected more than $800 in a donation jar at the cash register.”

May said there is always a need for pasta sauce, pet food and personal hygiene products, and with the holidays approaching, the food bank would welcome cash donations and gift certificates from places like Walmart, Winners and Amazon.
