Stayner Garden Club celebrates past 100 years with shade for future generations
To commemorate its 100th anniversary, the Stayner Garden Club has planted a native red oak at Centennial/Kinsmen ParticiPark.
Club president Anne Ripley said although the centennial was actually in 2023 circumstances caused the club to delay the planting until September.
Ripley said a decision was made to install a bench around the tree so people could one day enjoy the shade the oak will provide as it matures.
The park is active with community events like the Stayner Duck Races and movie nights hosted by the Stayner and District Kinsmen.
“We want people to have a seat and rest while on a hike or bike ride. You could even come down and read a book and listen to the creek rippling by just a few feet away,” said Ripley. “The tree will take some time to grow and provide a nice covering of shade. It is the only oak in that section.”
The park is located at 240 Brock St.
