Indoor walk n’ talk keeps people moving in winter

The Creemore Legion is starting the new year off right with a program that aims to allow people to get their steps in while staying safe and being social.

A group gathered Wednesday morning for the inaugural meeting of the Walk n’ Talk Group.

The music was playing as people circled the perimeter of the large hall in pairs and small groups. People were heard catching up after the holidays and introducing themselves to new friends. The conversation ranged from family to the weather.

It is the wintry weather that has motivated the Legion to open the doors on a weekly basis, giving people a safe place to exercise.

“Given the condition of the sidewalks it’s safer to walk indoors,” said coordinator Doug Mills. “It’s easy to get to and there’s lots of parking.”

The Legion had been open for walking prior to the pandemic and members were happy to revive the program in order to make use of the newly renovated facility and showcase it to the community.

The Walk n’ Talk Group meets every Wednesday between 10 a.m. and noon. Participants are asked to bring indoor shoes. Admission is free.
