Let there be lights: crosswalk repaired

A pedestrian crosswalk on Mill Street in Creemore is finally operational. Dan Perreault, Clearview Township Director of Public Works says the device, originally installed last December, wasn’t functioning properly due to a problem with the controller box.

“The box controls the solar panels and how the batteries are recharged,” explained Perreault. “It was malfunctioning so the batteries were fried. The panel has been replaced by the manufacturer.”

The crosswalk, located at the corner of Caroline Street, works with a pedestrian operated sensor that activates the crossing lights. The crosswalk has been in the plans since former councillor Thom Paterson presented his report titled Patios, Parking and Pedestriansback in May 2022. At that time, staff was asked to bring back a recommendation for upgrading the intersection. Their report, presented in September 2022, included a recommendation for a crosswalk.

Perreault says there was a significant delay in obtaining the required equipment. The total cost of the installation is around $10,000.
