Headstones vandalized in New Lowell

Five limestone headstones at New Lowell United Church were vandalized recently. They mark the graves of early Sunnidale Township settlers and that some of them are runaway slaves and came to the area via the Underground Railroad, including John Morgan. The vandalism was discovered by Janie Cooper-Wilson, who is a descendant of Morgan, and a caretaker of many local historical cemeteries. The church has the proper insurance and is getting a Midhurst company to do the repairs, hopefully in the next month. The incident has been reported to the police.
