Nottawa development still on hold

 In News

The request for a five-year extension to a Draft Plan Approval for Nottawa sparked a larger discussion about development in Clearview at the Oct. 26 meeting of Clearview council.
The Delzotto development proposal for approximately 500 residential units has been on the books since 2006, but challenges with providing municipal water and sewer services are still not resolved.
Deputy Mayor Barry Burton pointed out that several property owners in Nottawa who have expressed a desire to sever lots and build using private services are being held up by the pending development. Burton asked if it is realistic to expect shovels in the ground within the next five years.
Mara Burton, the township’s Director of Community Services says services to the proposed development could be extended from the Town of Collingwood. Collingwood has commenced a water treatment Environmental Assessment, but the process to come up with a preferred solution could take 18-24 months. The solution would then need to be funded and built. She suggests that the horizon may well be greater than five years, but that it seems diligent to keep the Delzotto plan alive until the larger Clearview Plan is approved.
CAO Steve Sage weighed in and suggested that council must decide whether they want to service the Nottawa area and if the answer is yes, then the Delzotto development could be a great partner. In the end, council voted to extend the Draft Plan Approval to 2025.
