Climate Action Team issues carbon footprint challenge
Collingwood Climate Action Team is issuing a Community Carbon Footprint Challenge with the goal to have everyone reduce their footprint to 50 per cent by 2030.
The community is encouraged to find ways to reduce their personal emissions, and as whole community, and help the planet.
“Our planet is in danger because of human impact on the environment. We need your support whether you are new to the carbon conversation or an environmental activist. There is so much we can do together,” say organizers. “No matter where we live climate change is affecting us today with implications such as extreme weather events including forest fires, droughts, tornadoes, less reliable snowfall, and new infections like COVID-19. We know that change is necessary to solve the climate crisis.”
A ‘Carbon Footprint’ is the total amount of greenhouse gases generated by human activity.
Five key areas impact that footprint: energy, transportation, travel, food, and waste.
To get started: Measure your carbon footprint and pledge; choose ways to reduce your carbon footprint – Use the action tools, participate in a carbon conversation workshops, join mini-challenges that we will be posting regularly; Impact- lifestyle changes will have a positive impact on our planet and pledge to remeasure your footprint annually.
