Police briefs: Police nab two impaired drivers thanks to road conditions

Police were alerted to two impaired drivers when they failed to properly negotiate Clearview Township roads in slippery conditions on Jan. 8.

At 9:01 p.m., police were called to a Superior Street address in Stayner, in response to a vehicle that had reportedly collided with a hydro pole.

On arrival, police observed several people attempting to remove the vehicle from the ditch, and immediately entered into an impaired driving investigation.

The driver was arrested at the scene.

Patrick Tutton, 20, of Stayner, has been charged with: taking a motor vehicle without consent; operation of a vehicle while impaired; having a blood alcohol concentration of 80- plus.

Later that day, at 11:39 p.m., while on patrol on County Road 10, police observed a vehicle lose control and spin out.

As the vehicle attempted to drive away, police stopped the vehicle.

This driver was also arrested as a result of an impaired driving investigation.

Charly Tosca Dominguez, 29, of London, has been charged with: operation of a vehicle while impaired; having a blood alcohol concentration of 80-plus; and dangerous operation of a motor vehicle.

Both are scheduled to appear in the Ontario Court of Justice in Collingwood on Feb. 8.

Citizens are reminded to do their part by never driving after consuming alcohol or drugs and never letting anyone else drive if you know or suspect that they have consumed either.

If you suspect someone is driving, or going to drive, while impaired by drugs or alcohol, contact the police immediately by calling 9-1-1.

Woman abducted from Wasaga Beach home

Huronia West OPP is investigating a home invasion and abduction in Wasaga Beach Wednesday evening, and are asking for public assistance.

Police responded to a report of an abduction from a residence on Trailwood Place at about 8:32 p.m. Upon arrival officers learned that a 37-year-old female had been abducted from her residence by three men.

The victim is Elnaz Hajtamiri (also goes by the surname Tamiri). She is 37 years old, 160 cms (5’3”) tall, slim build, with shoulder-length black hair.

The suspects are described as three black males. There is no further description at this time. They fled in a vehicle described as a white SUV.

There are concerns for the victim’s safety. The suspects are believed to be armed and dangerous. Do not approach if located. Contact 9-1-1. If you have any information please contact the OPP at 1-888-310- 3322. If you wish to remain anonymous, you can call Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477.

Excessive speed in Nottawa

A Huronia West OPP officer stopped a high speed vehicle travelling more than twice the speed limit on 33-34 Sideroad, near Nottawa on Dec. 30.

The officer captured a speed reading of 155 km/hr in a residential area with a posted speed limit of 60 km/hr. The officer then observed the vehicle fail to stop for a stop sign at an intersection. Upon speaking with the driver an odor of alcohol was detected and a breath sample was taken from the driver.

The driver, a 28 year old local male from Clearview Township has been charged with racing, disobeying a stop sign, and failing to have an insurance card.

The driver received an immediate 30 day driver’s license suspension and his vehicle was impounded for 14 days.
