Council chambers to receive accessibility upgrades, funds

Clearview Township has been notified it has been successful in its application for funds to renovate council chambers to make it accessible to those with mobility issues.

The money is coming from the federal government’s Enabling Accessibility Fund – Small Projects Component.

Clerk Sasha Helmkay reported that the grant in the amount of $99,109 is for the renovation of the horseshoe dais and furniture. The funding cannot be used towards upgrading technology, which was part of the original application, as that is not an eligible component of the grant.

The project must be completed by March 27, 2024 and staff expect to start the work in the spring of 2023.

“This funding is welcomed news to the municipality, as with rising costs for construction, it allows for additional monies to be used in conjunction with the already existing budget of $125,000 (includes funding from modernization fund),” reported Helmkay.
