No-parking zone coming to Con 10

 In News

A staff report presented to Clearview council this week calls for creation of a no-parking zone on the east side of Concession 10, north of County Road 124, and a smaller no-parking zone on the west side.

The area is popular with outdoor enthusiasts, including hikers and rock climbers. Frequently, visitors park on both sides of the road creating unsafe conditions for large farm equipment trying to maneuver through the area.

Dan Perreault, deputy director of Public Works told council that on the west side, the shoulder is wide enough to permit vehicles to move off to the side. The shoulder on the east side is much narrower, so when vehicles are parked there, the roadway is constricted. The staff recommendation is for a no-parking zone on the west side extending 50 metres north from the intersection of County Road 124, and on the east side extending 175 metres north from the intersection.

Councillor Robert Walker pointed out that without increased enforcement, any bylaw will be worthless.

Council will vote on the proposed new bylaw at the April 25 meeting.

Why are you saying “unsafe conditions”? The farmer had no concerns about safety, only the inability to pass through with farm equipment. There is no record of accidents at that intersection due vehicles parked on the shoulder of Concession 10. If drivers feel the intersection is not safe, they must not be following speed limits. That has nothing to do with people parking on the shoulder so stop making it sound like hikers and climbers are creating unsafe conditions. That’s absolutely not true.

I tried to comment on this post already but my comment is not showing up for some reason.

This story is inaccurate. The farmer never mentioned any concerns regarding safety, only that he could not get his large farm equipment through when vehicles are parked on both sides of the street. Any concerns around safety are totally baseless and only serve to paint climbers in a bad light. There have been no accidents at this corner related to hikers and climbers parking in the area. Any drivers concerned about safety are clearly driving too fast and not appropriately reducing speed as they enter/exit Concession 10.
