8U Stayner baseball team celebrates B-side championship win
by Lisa Soules
What a season to remember for our local Stayner White Sox! This group of young ballplayers capped off their year with an incredible victory, bringing home the B-Side Championship after a season filled with growth, learning, and plenty of fun.
Back in the spring, some of these kids were picking up a baseball glove for the very first time. Fundamentals like throwing, catching, and base running were all new skills to learn. Fast forward a few months, and this same team was turning groundouts, tagging runners, and making smart plays in the field.
Their playoff run showed just how far they’d come. They played intense back to back games and didn’t let rain delays or tough opponents dampen their spirits. In the championship game, Stayner edged out Angus in a thrilling 17-15 battle that had fans on the edge of their seats. The Stayner White Sox were hot, with doubles flying fast off their bats, RBIs piling up, and even an infield home run to ignite the cheering crowd. On defence, the team worked together to rack up forced outs, groundouts, and tags that showed off their growing confidence and teamwork.
Of course, none of this would have been possible without the dedication of the coaching staff. With patience, encouragement, and countless hours spent teaching, the coaches helped these kids not only learn the game but also fall in love with it.
The team and families would also like to extend a heartfelt thank-you to this year’s sponsors, whose support made the season extra special. A special shout-out goes to Jamie’s Main and Local for keeping spirits high (and bellies full) with the ice cream that was so well enjoyed by players and fans alike.
The B-Side Championship win is a proud moment for the players, their families, and the entire community. But more than the title, what stands out is the heart, determination, and friendships built along the way. Congratulations to the 8U Stayner White Sox on a season that will be remembered for years to come.
