Costco cleared for spring construction in Wasaga Beach
The Town of Wasaga Beach has amended its Comprehensive Zoning Bylaw to permit construction of a new Costco Warehouse Store at 345 Lyons Court, at Ramblewood Drive, near the casino.
The property, previously zoned Service Commercial – Holding, has been reclassified as Service Commercial.
Wasaga Beach Mayor Brian Smith says there has been a high level of public interest in the project.
“We share the community’s excitement,” he told The Echo. “As a major employer and economic driver,
Costco would create jobs, expand local shopping options, and strengthen the town’s long-term tax base. At this time, the company continues its due diligence, and the town remains committed to supporting them through that process.”
Site plan drawings submitted to the town call for a 15,000 square metres (approximately 162,000 square feet) store plus gas bar and a parking lot for nearly 900 cars.
The company could not be reached to discuss anticipated opening date, but the zoning bylaw change paves the way for construction to begin this spring.
