A late spring of great beauty emerging from the ice-storms’ damage includes the Japanese white-flowered Clematis patens, the Chinese blue-flowered Cl. integrifolia, and the European Cl. alpina in shades of blue and purple; of peony species from Georgia, Sichuan, Ukraine; the ‘Japanese Snowball’, Viburnum plicatum and its form ‘Mariesii’; the Chinese yellow-flowered daphne, Daphne giraldii; Lilium martagon ‘from Portugal to Mongolia’; and the delicate, small white-flowered tree, Halesia carolina.
