GTHS Walkathon raises over $126,000 for pets and people

For the second year in a row, the Georgian Triangle Humane Society (GTHS) had no choice but to turn their popular in-person event into a virtual one that could be enjoyed by participants far and wide while ensuring safety guidelines were followed.
Once again, the South Georgian Bay community stepped up to the plate despite the re-imagining of this fundraiser.
Walkathon Week took place from June 20-26 and has raised over $126,000 and counting.
Participants had the opportunity to choose their favourite activities; some hiked, biked and swan, while others kayaked, ran and organized their own yoga-thons.
The GTHS is grateful to the participants, sponsors, committee members and cheerleaders of this event. Without any government funding, the organization relies on fundraising initiatives such as the Walkathon Your Way to provide innovative, accessible programs and compassionate services to the pets and people of our community.
“Unprecedented times mean unpredictable trends in fundraising, but if one thing is true, it is that our community is amazing. Our supporters continue to inspire us, champion the cause and make us believe that anything is possible for the pets and people who need our essential programs and services most. We are humbled by the success of Walkathon this year and filled with nothing but gratitude,” Abigail Krogman, fundraising coordinator.
Another big, serendipitous Walkathon celebration as three long term residents were adopted during Walkathon Week! Special paws kitty Kahoni, Special Paws dog Rosie and Underdog Whybie all found new families to call their own.
