Concession 3 home destroyed by fire

UPDATED – A house fire on Concession 3 South Nottawasaga, near Avening, is now under investigation by the Office of the Fire Marshal.
“It appeared there had been an explosion which resulted in rapid fire spread and as winds increased it definitely fanned the fire promoting more rapid fire growth,” said Clearview Township Fire Chief Roree Payment. “Crews worked very hard to bring the fire under control however due to wind conditions and the house’s location, being on a hill, unfortunately the house was lost to fire.”
He said the explosion came from within the home, and is the reason the OFM and the TSSA – Technical Standards and Safety Authority – were both called to investigate.
When the initial fire call came in at 2:40 p.m., Payment said he was the first on scene and found a fully involved fire. He said there was one person home at the time and they had escaped without injury.
He said the wind picked up shortly after firefighting efforts began. All stations responded to the call and because of the rural location, pumpers were called in from Mulmur and Adjala-Tosorontio.
Payment said because of the ongoing investigation, firefighters worked to control the fire while at the same time preserving as much of the scene as possible. Firefighters were on scene all weekend, finally clearing the scene and leaving it in the hands of OFM on Monday.
Through the Mutual Aid program, Wasaga Beach firefighters covered the area while Clearview’s resources were being directed toward the fire.
