New Lowell Knights remain undefeated

The defending North Dufferin Baseball League champion New Lowell Knights continue to roll right along and remain undefeated after eight games played this season.

After winning five games in the month of May, the team has maintained its strength of getting timely hits behind strong pitching performances to win their three games played this month.

Brandon Norrie struck out nine Aurora Jays batters Sunday before the game was called in the sixth inning to help the Knights win 4-0. The win was New Lowell’s second consecutive game without allowing a run.

Friday night the Lisle Astros were pummeled 8-0 at their home park by the Knights.

This time, hurlers Steve Baldry and Todd Gowan combined for a four-hitter while the batters manufactured a run in each inning except the second and seventh.

In the June 2 game, Mansfield Cubs remained close and only trailed 3-2 after three innings but in the fourth New Lowell broke the game wide open scoring four.

Allan Brownridge went the distance in getting the win over Devon Caldwell.

The hamlet of New Lowell houses two teams, the other being the Clearview Orioles.

Although the Knights are currently the league’s dominant team, the Orioles are pretty damn good.

In June, the ball club won their three games played and are perched in fourth place in the 14-team league with a 6-3 record.

The Orioles beat up the Creemore Braves 8-1 Sunday by banging nine hits off veteran pitcher Matt Baldry and another off Marc Dupuis, who pitched the seventh and last inning. Charlie Coates picked up the win for the Orioles in a steady performance.

Thursday, June 2, the Orioles played the second place Midland Indians and thanks to a timely double by Stephen Warden, drove in Tristan Cabral to break a 1-1 tie.

Reliever Derek Scharnhorst held the Indians off to reward teammate Derek Worrod the victory for his five-inning three-hit pitching performance. June 1, Orioles’ Cory Line snatched a win away from opposing Ivy pitcher Chad Watters.

Clearview won the game 3-1 with Watters giving up six hits compared to Line’s five.

Ivy sits one point ahead of the Orioles with a 6-2-1 record. Considering Clearview is in a fight for second place with Midland and Ivy, those wins were big wins!

Creemore Barons have played two games this month winning one and losing the other.

Sunday, the Barons slugged their way to an 11-4 victory with four different players pounding the ball out of the park.

Sid Beelen, Adam VanderHeyden, Jamie Gillespie and Bryce Watson hit the home runs.

June 1, Bolton Dodgers beat the Barons 9-2 but the game was far closer than the score indicates.

The game was actually tied until the fifth inning when the Dodgers put it all together scoring seven in that inning.

The Barons team is competitive. Their record is 3-5.

The good news for the 2-7-1 Creemore Braves is that they won their second game of the year Saturday, 5-1, over the league’s newest entry, the Alliston Athletics.

Ethan Henry earned the win striking out 13 batters and giving up six hits. Tom Gateman, Glenn Patterson and Andrew Blakey hit doubles for the Braves.

Their other June game was the 8-1 loss to Clearview.
