Quilters support Lions Foundation Dog Guides

 In Community

For nearly 20 years, the Georgian Triangles quilting group has been designing and hand-making quilts that are eventually raffled off to raise money for a variety of charitable organizations.

Over time, they have raised almost $30,000 that has gone to Big Sisters, Bruce Trail Association, Gilda’s Club, Hospice Georgian Triangle and Breast Cancer, and have also donated a number of their quilts.

Recently, Bev Scholte contacted the Stayner Lions Club to ask how they could make a donation to a Lions Club Vision Program. It was suggested that a donation to the Lions Foundation of Canadian, Dog Guides School, might be a good fit as they have a long history of providing dog guides for the blind, at no cost to the recipient. Their members agreed and Scholte attended a meeting to present a donation of $700 for the Dog Guides School.

The Georgian Triangles’ numbers have been declining due to aging, but the remaining members continue to meet to work on quilts, visit other quilting guilds and enjoy fellowship.
