SIU investigates Avening crash

 In News

The Special Investigations Unit (SIU) is investigating a collision that happened in Avening back in November.

On Nov. 25, at about 6 p.m., there was a collision between a police cruiser and a civilian vehicle at Airport Road (County Road 42) and the 3/4 Sideroad Nottawasaga.

SIU spokesperson Monica Hudon said all three occupants from the civilian vehicle, as well as the police officer, were transported to hospital for treatment.

The 75-year-old driver of the vehicle sustained serious injury. Four investigators and one collision reconstructionist have been assigned to the case.

At the time of the collision, The Echo was unable to get any information or comment from emergency responders and there were no mentions on social media by police or the fire department, which is highly unusual.

The SIU is a civilian law enforcement agency, independent of the police, that conducts criminal investigations into circumstances involving police and civilians that have resulted in serious injury, death or allegations of sexual assault.
