Sunnidale straw fire, deliberately set

Clearview Fire and Emergency Services were called to a blaze on 3/4 Sideroad Sunnidale, between Concession 9 and Highway 26, on Oct. 16, where a straw pile had been deliberately set on fire. Fire Chief Roree Payment said the crews responded at 11:15 p.m. and did not clear the scene until 7 a.m. on Oct. 18. He said, in this instance it was more time and cost efficient to burn the pile down in a controlled burn type setting rather than extinguish it. The fire is considered suspicious.
