Support gas tax to fight climate change

 In Letters, Opinion

Editor:

By now, most of your readers will have read or heard about the most recent Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change report. It concludes that climate change is happening faster than was first predicted and severe consequences are now expected as early as 2040.

The same day that this report came out, the Nobel Memorial Prize in Economic Science was awarded to William Nordhaus, who has made the case that the most efficient way to fight climate change is through a carbon tax.

I would urge your readers to contact their MPP and urge them to ask the provincial government to drop its opposition to the federal carbon tax. Opposition to this tax seems to fly in the face of reason. This is not about politics it is about our children and grandchildren.

Basil Guinane,

Creemore.
