 In Obituaries

It is with heavy hearts that we announce the peaceful passing of our remarkable wife and mother, Catherine Walker, at Sunset Manor Long Term Care Facility in her 84th year, having faced a rare disease, Progressive Supranuclear Palsy, with determination and courage. She was a loving and devoted wife to Douglas Walker, beloved mother to Terry Walker (Sandy), Joan McInnis (Richard) and Rick Walker (Nancy), cherished grandmother to Meghan, Shawn, Adam, Drew, Stephanie, Evan and Dylan, and proud great-grandmother to Chase, Caleb, Tyler, Emma and Riley. Catherine will be greatly missed by her sister Susan Brockwell (Merv), along with many nieces, nephews, cousins, cherished friends, and all who had the pleasure of knowing her. She is predeceased by parents Russ and Gladys Baker, and sister Joan.

Catherine was an integral part of the Stayner community and among her many contributions, she served as organist and choir director at Jubilee Presbyterian Church for 53 years. Catherine brought a positive energy to everything she did, from floral designer, organist and choir director, piano and Music for Young Children teacher, musical vocalist, to founding member of the Stayner Heritage Society and the Georgian Girls double trio. Always with a smile on her face, she led a full and wonderful life, nurturing all around her with love, faith and her passion for music.

The family would like to extend their gratitude to the caring staff at Sunset Manor, and to the special friends and caregivers who continued to bless her life during her final 2 years in long term care. Visitation will take place at the Carruthers & Davidson Funeral Home in Stayner on Friday, September 7 from 2-4 p.m. and 7-9 p.m., with the Celebration of Life taking place on Saturday, September 8 at 1 p.m. If you wish, a donation could be made to the Jubilee Presbyterian Church in Stayner or the Colllingwood General and Marine Hospital in Catherine’s memory.
