Watching feathered friends of the bird tube

 In Opinion

Literally, I spend a lot of time just observing the antics of the birds January has been a very busy month at the feeders.

I find if you are consistent and keep food out, they show up. At first, I only had juncos and chickadees but finally the beautiful cardinals came and now twice visit twice a day. I admit I love those big loud blue jays and now I have two red headed woodpeckers frequenting my linden tree.

Christmas Eve, my friend Lynda Jeffrey brought me a homemade cup-and-saucer birdfeeder with suet balls rolled in seed. I put this out right away. My brother Ivan is so kind to bring me birdseed so I can enjoy my bird TV out my windows.

A few months ago I was out on the front porch picking up debris after one of our bad windy days. A small bird came chirping right in my face. I wondered what was happening. I looked sideways to the birdhouse where her babies were. It had been knocked off its stand. I went and picked up the house and sat it upright again. Within minutes she was in there checking up on her babies. She then appeared, sat on the rail right beside me and started chirping happily. I think she was letting me know all was right again.

Birdwatching is a rewarding and enjoyable pastime, especially this winter.

Oh, I must sign off. I just had another couple of cardinals arrive.
