Police recover device stolen from NCPS

Hi, I’m Martin Hewitt. I will be doing a column on things happening around the school, so if your kid doesn’t tell you anything about his day, you can turn to this part. (Side note: this won’t be a weekly column. Stuff doesn’t happen that often.) It will be called NCPS News.

Recently, a work-to-rule, that had been going on since May 11, ended. This prevented extracurricular activities, and it even affected custodians, who couldn’t put blue bins and green bins in the school.

Because of the job action ending, the tech club, led by school principal Alison Golding, has started up again. She said she had a lot of work to do with the teachers going on work-to-rule, and was unable to supervise the meetings.

However, when the job action at the primary schools ended, the secondary schools started up a work-to-rule, so now the basketball teams won’t be able to have their tournament, as it is hosted at the high school.

These job actions do not apply to the Simcoe Muskoka Catholic District School Board.

Another thing, the school was broken into a while ago, and the police caught the thief. The thief smashed the kindergarten classroom’s window, and stole one iPad and one iPod. Only the iPad was recovered.

A school letter that has been sent home revealed that the progress reports have been rescheduled, and will be sent home on Friday, Dec. 11.

Designs have been painted around the school playground, including games and educational tools.

The games include Red But, a game with a scoring system like horse, four squares, a road, snakes and ladders, and a conflict circle (pictured above), which helps kids resolve conflicts.

One student said: “It was a lot of fun, some people bumped heads and got hurt but in the end we had fun.”

Kindergarten teacher Lisa Doner-Day said. “The kindergarteners are very excited, so I hope it doesn’t snow.”

She also said that there will be more outdoor classroom extensions, like a stage.

These extensions will be funded through the new all-day kindergarten program.

Martin Hewitt is a Grade 6 student at Nottawasaga Creemore Public School.
