Students collect Canadian Tire money for refugees

 In Community

In case you didn’t know, the school offers a breakfast and snack program for students who run out of lunch or are hungry every day. There are currently over 25 students taking part in the program, and if anyone in the community is interested, donations would be greatly accepted. Acceptable donations are fresh fruit, eggs, carrots and cucumbers.

Mrs. Whitley’s Grade 3/4 class is collecting Canadian Tire money for the “Out of a War Zone and into the Hills” group to help a Syrian family that will be moving to our community.

Mrs. Whitley will be attending a meeting on Feb. 17 to learn more about helping out. If any NCPS student would like to help out too, please bring in your Canadian Tire money and give it to the Grade 3/4 class.

The NCPS hockey team played against Byng, last Thursday morning in Stayner and fun was had by all. Byng was very sportsmanlike and took it easy on some sleepy hockey players from Creemore.  The team will have a rematch on Friday, March 11 at 11:45 a.m. at the Creemore Community Arena, which will include the entire school watching the game and cheering on the team.

The school had a new book fair that started on Wednesday, Jan. 27, and continued into next week on Monday Feb. 1 because of a PA day on Friday the 29th. The theme of this year’s book fair was monsters (The book fair usually has themes.) The fair was pushed back in the year because the teachers had a job action, and this is also the first year that the book fair has been in the new renovated library.

On Monday, Jan. 25, the school held a gathering that invited students to help brainstorm a new motto for the school. The current motto is: A great school in a small community. The ETA on the new motto is within this school year.

The school’s principal Alison Golding said she is looking for a motto that says, “what is our why?”

Martin Hewitt is a Grade 6 student at Nottawasaga and Creemore Public School.
