Cole McArthur has been awarded a $3,000 County of Simcoe bursary.

McArthur credits his success to his commitment to the fundraising initiative for the Creemore skateboard park, volunteering on the Clearview Township rebranding project, volunteering within the community through the local Cadet Corp, academic success, musical interests, and experiences on the 2014 RCAC National Rifle Team.

Fifteen bursaries were awarded to students across the county.

The applications are blind reviewed by a minimum of two senior staff members and a minimum of two County of Simcoe who make the final selection of the bursary recipients.

Awards were based on multiple criteria including academic transcripts, volunteering and community work, extracurricular involvement and a 500-word essay on, “Who has had the greatest impact on your life and why? How has this influenced your choice of post-secondary studies/career?”

McArthur’s essay spoke to one of his early marksmanship shooting coaches and mentor Paige Kirk, who he believes played a big influence in him making the 2014 RCAC National Rifle Team that competed in Bisley, England.

McArthur has received multiple bursaries this fall for school, including an Ontario Hockey Federation Bursary and from Carleton University.

Being involved has helped McArthur to develop great leadership skills and the confidence to achieve his goals.  He is currently attending Carleton University in Ottawa and taking a Degree in Business Law with a minor in Business working towards his goal of a career in law.
