Dismantling CBC would destroy democracy
Editor:
Candidates for Conservative Party leadership are making the usual comments in the hope of gaining support from their party base. A normal electoral process.
It is when some candidate shows a major character flaw in stating extreme policies that we need to wake up. Not satisfied with wanting Canada to follow Donald Trump’s despicable standards, Kellie Leitch MP has stated that, “…. Canadian Broadcast Corporation (CBC) needs to be dismantled”. Presumably a sell off that would be open to all buyers including those from the USA. In reality, maybe this is not possible, but it does demonstrate Leitch’s character and basic anti-Canadian values.
We rely on unbiased and truthful information from radio, television and the press in order to form an opinion, which in turn, translates our ballots into chosen government. Any suggestion that CBC should be dismantled, sold, in parts, then controlled by vested interests, foreign or domestic, means the destruction of democracy as we know it.
I cannot believe that the Canadian Conservative Party members would elect Kellie Leitch to leadership, followed by endorsement of her policies. There are many more candidates in the race worthy of party support.
