Clearview takes second at Georgian Bay Reads

Clearview Public Library representative Julie Pollock made it to the final round of Georgian Bay Reads advocating for The Lost Diaries of Susanna Moodie by Creemore author Cecily Ross.

Indian Horse by Richard Wagamese, defended by Meaford representative Leslie Ransom got the win, beating out Rilla of Ingleside by L.M. Montgomery, chosen by Collingwood rep Mariane McLeod, Man in the Shadows by Gordon Henderson, chosen by Springwater rep Anne Arksey and We’re All in This Together by Amy Jones, chosen by Wasaga Beach rep Cathy Turrie.

Georgian Bay’s premier literary event pits book defenders from each participating library against each other to determine the best Canadian title. It’s an evening full of laughs as each defender argues why their book is deserves to be the champion. This year’s event was moderated by last year’s winner Julie LeBlanc of Collingwood.

“It was pretty cool to have two really strong books on the list, the others were pleasant reads but I don’t think they were at the same literary level,” said Pollock. “I warmed up to the debating much more than I expected. It was fun to stretch my words.”

It worked out that Meaford won because the plan was to make a big splash for next year’s 10th anniversary event at Meaford Hall.

All three branches of the Clearview Public Library have copies of the contenders and all the titles from past years. Visit www.georgianbayreads.ca for the full reading list.
