Clearview CAO announces plans to retire
Clearview Township CAO Steve Sage has announced his intention to retire at the end of the year.
Sage made the announcement during an in-camera session at the beginning of the Oct. 5 council meeting. He later addressed council in open session.
“I want to take the opportunity to thank everyone, particularly council, and previous councils. I’ve had a lot of mentors, too many to mention and a lot of people from the public who have allowed us to accomplish what we’ve accomplished over the 30 years that I’ve been here,” said Sage, adding there is a long list of things he is proud of.
“I want to thank, particularly, my staff. They are terrific. We have built a pretty great team here at Clearview and if there is a lull between my absence and the next CAO, you have a lot of competent people that you can turn to that will probably forget more than I will ever know on some subjects.”
Sage started his career with the former Township of Sunnidale in 1990.
He began as the road superintendent, and moving into the role of road and drainage supervisor at the time of amalgamation in 1994. He was promoted to deputy director of public works in 2003, and general manager of public works in 2012. In 2014 he took the position of CAO.
“On behalf of the Township of Clearview, I wish to congratulate Mr. Sage on his decision to retire from the role of CAO,” said Mayor Doug Measures, “as an employee for over 30 years, he has contributed to the growth of the community in so many ways. There is no doubt that his skills, knowledge and experience at public works management developed the strong leadership skills he demonstrated as CAO. Mr. Sage has been a reliable and confident leader guiding our municipal staff. He knows our township intimately, from every trail or sideroad to the policies that serve our residents and demonstrates his passion for our community every day. His tenure of service is a testament to the level of dedication to Clearview he holds.”
Sage has said his last day at the helm will be Dec. 24. Council will begin a recruitment process in the coming weeks.
