Yotes in second place at Christmas break

 In Sports

Another four-point weekend for Creemore as the Coyotes bested Seaforth 2-1 on Saturday night on home ice and then travelled to Erin on Sunday afternoon for their first ever tilt with the Outlaws, winning a close one 6-4 with Ben Hughes putting the game away with an empty-netter with only seconds left.

The two wins gives the boys from Creemore a total of 21 points at the half way point of the season, just two points behind the league leading Ripley Wolves with one game in hand.

Orangeville’s Mason Kameka stole the game against Seaforth on Saturday with an outstanding performance stopping over 50 shots.

Sunday in Erin saw Brendan Macham getting his first start of the year, and although looking shaky at times, got the job done, stopping a break away in the second and with a couple good glove saves in the third earning his second win of the year. Goaltending was a question mark going in, but the trio of Kameka, Laciak and Macham have answered the bell with a combined GAA of 3.5.

Hughes and JD Falconer are fourth and fifth in league scoring each with 24 points with Jordan Taylor in 12th place not far behind with 19 points.

“It’s been a great first half,” says GM Tom Macham. “I’m giving it a nine out of 10.”

His only disappointment has been low fan turnout.

“I thought we would be putting 300 plus through the turnstiles but we are struggling to get to the 200 mark,” said Macham. “It’s a very inexpensive night out for a family. We have a winning team with lots of giveaways and live entertainment on occasion in the booster club (arena hall).”

Speaking of which, 2 Guys with Guitars are booked for Jan. 6 and Hog Back Road will make their second appearance on Jan. 20.

Winners from the game on Dec. 16 were:

50/50: Allison Stinson, $280;

Shoot the puck: Gavin Lane – $20 gift card to Georgian Bowl;

Stockyard prize pack went unclaimed (ticket # 632973);

Attendance: 195.
