Varmints win fifth in a row

Fast forward from a very disappointing weekend on Nov. 25-26 when the Creemore Coyotes lost back-to- back games, the boys from the valley have now won five straight, the latest being a 3-0 shutout over the Saugeen Shores Winterhawks.

Creemore has outscored their opponents 21-13 over that timeframe. Leading the way of late is goaltender Mason Kameka. Tall and lanky at 6’2” and 190 pounds, his play has been instrumental in the team’s success in December.

“His mechanics are sound, he moves very well laterally for a big kid and he has a great glove hand,” says team founder Tom Macham. “We were able to get him late last year from Shelburne. He was their third goalie but they weren’t giving him much of a chance to show what he could do. He got hurt in our third or fourth playoff game against Saugeen so his year was kind of a disappointment to him. He has more than made up for that this year so far.”

Kameka stands second in games won with 8 (Ripley’s Jason Hamilton leads the league with 10). Kameka also has the fifth best GAA at 3.0 among goalies with five games or more.

“He’s stealing games for us,” says Macham.

The Yotes record now stands at 11-3 with six games left. Up next are the Lucknow Lancers this Saturday.

Puck drop is at the usual time of 7:30 p.m.
The band 2 Guys with Guitars will be the live entertainment in the booster club following the game.

See everyone at the rink.
