Is it really “efficient” to savage our shared environment?

Editor:

The Creemore Echo’s clear-sighted reporting on the needless damage done to roadside vegetation along County Rd. 9 between Creemore and Dunedin raised important issues.

It’s perplexing that, as taxpayers, we support what must be deemed to be appropriate salaries for our county administrators, while they and our elected officials can’t find it in their budget to afford wages that would attract humans to do the necessary management carefully and appropriately. We are constantly being told that it is more “efficient” to use large-scale machinery to do work that can be done better in more labour- intensive ways. Is it really “efficient” tosavage our shared environment? What are the true costs? It’s time for some serious rethinking.
