Clearview allocates second round of grants
Clearview Township has earmarked $24,500 to be allocated in the second round of Clearview’s community assistance grants.
The Community Assistance Grant and Sponsorship policy allows council the opportunity to provide financial assistance to various community groups that provide a recognized contribution to the well being of the residents of Clearview.
The clerk’s office received a total of 18 applications totalling $52,175 in requests for the second intake of the program. The remaining $26,150 left in the kitty will be transferred to the next budget year.
- 1944 Creemore Army Cadets – $1,000 to purchase waterproof, shock-resistant, long-range rechargeable handheld walkie- talkie radios to enhance cadet training;
- Brentwood Horticultural Society – $500 to purchase supplies for community gardens and assist with the honorarium that is paid to the guest speakers that attend meetings;
- Clearview Community Theatre – $2,000 to assist with costs for venue rental, costumes, sound and lighting equipment, scripts and music rights, and other expenses for the fall production;
- Clearview Stayner Food Bank – $4,000 to assist with providing food and support;
- Creemore Community Choir – $500 for costs relating to the purchase of music, insurance and a PO Box;
- Creemore Farmers’ and Craft Market – $1,000 to improve visibility in Creemore with more prominent advertising methods and signage;
- Friends of the Stayner Union Cemetery – $1,000 for flower beds plus the proposed additional planting of perennials required for the council approved scattering garden;
- Habitat for Humanity Huronia – $2,000 for an IT systems upgrade;
- Resources for Area Youth Success (RAYS) – $1,000 for bursary grant to students graduating from area high schools and pursuing a trade or apprenticeship program. Funds are generally applied to needs such as tuition, tools, books, transportation, accommodation, parking and insurance costs;
- Senior Wish Association – Clearview Chapter – $500 to assist with the largest program of Senior Wish and that is their Bags of Love program, during the Christmas season;
- St. Luke’s Community Food Bank – $4,000 to provide Good Food Boxes to families in need and support the students at New Lowell Public school with apples and hard boiled eggs weekly;
- Stayner Heritage Society – $500 to repair and maintain damaged War Memorial banners, contribute in partnership with the Royal Canadian Legion to the costs of remembrance day observations;
- Sunnidale Firefighters Association – $2,000 for the purchase of a fire truck formerly used to service the Sunnidale and New Lowell fire halls. The grant money would be used towards transporting and restoring the truck.
- The Living Wish Foundation – $1,500 to increase the number of wishes that are granted.
- The Royal Canadian Legion – Branch 516 (New Lowell) – $3,000 to install power-assist doors at a facility that serves as a community hub for the village of New Lowell.
