Mullen & Mullen opens Stayner branch

 In Business

Mullen and Mullen Mortgage Architects held a ribbon cutting ceremony last week to celebrate the opening of their new Stayner office.

The office will be home base for Jordon Mullen, a Stayner resident. She is business partners with her mother Donna Mullen, who has been a mortgage broker in Wasaga Beach since 1994.

After working for financial institutions, Jordon partnered with Donna to form Mullen and Mullen in 2017. Jordon said after graduating from school she got an internship at Home Trust Company and quickly worked her way up the corporate ladder, eventually managing her own underwriting team.

“I learned mortgages inside the banks,” said Jordon. “That made me a better partner outside the banks because I knew how they worked inside out.”

Having grown up in Wasaga Beach, she said she was missing home. At the same time her mother was looking for an experienced partner to help with the business.

Jordon said with access to 57 diverse lenders including banks, credit unions, private lenders and insurance companies and other financial institutions she is able to seek out the best choices for her clients.

“Because banks are closing in small towns, we’re able to offer them options,” said Jordon.

She said some retail banks have fewer options and may not be the best fit for someone who is self-employed, for example, and at the best rates.

She said a misconception is that borrowers pay mortgage broker fees, when in actuality the service is free to the client because fees are covered by the lending institutions.

“It’s in everyone’s best interest that we work to get them the absolute best deal possible with complete transparency,” said Jordon. “If they need to sell their home early or get out, we always want to make sure there’s options for them within that mortgage so they’re not charged those massive penalties like you hear on the news.”

She said they also educate their clients about borrowing within their means, so that people aren’t house poor and have the ability to save.
