Residents can request brush pick-up

 In News

In the event of another weather event like the ice storm which hit the area in March, Clearview Mayor Doug Measures says he will approach the situation differently.

“In Clearview, we had neighbours helping neighbours, so we did not declare a state of emergency and as a result, we have not been getting the support we should have had.”

Measures was reacting to a news release from Simcoe County advising that brush pick-up would be extended in affected areas. Singhampton was not identified as an area of concern, in spite of the heavy damage there.

Clearview Public Works Director, Dan Perreault told council this week he has spoken with contacts at the county who assured him that Clearview will not be forgotten, and the brush will be picked up.

Residents can make requests via phone, email or web

With continued response to clean up the immense amount of brush caused by the ice storm that hit parts of our region in March, the County of Simcoe is providing another increased service to support residents and communities.

Until May 23, residents across the County outside of the declared highly impacted areas can submit requests for brush pick-up fromspecific addresses, with collections commencing on Tuesday, May 20.

It is important that residents place all brush material curbside by Monday, May 19 to ensure collection as timing of collection may vary; however, materials will be collected.

Please note that this service is not available to residents of Barrie and Orillia.

Residents are asked to refer to an interactive map to check if your address falls into one of the highly impacted areas in Ramara, Oro- Medonte and Severn to determine whether you should submit a request or not.

Residents located outside of Ramara, Oro-Medonte and Severn are asked to submit a request by May 19 to ensure collection.

Residents located within one of the highly impacted areas do not need to make a request.

Crews will return to these hardest hit areas automatically for one final collection after May 19. Over the past month, crews have been prioritizing these communities through continued brush collection.

How to request collection

Submit a request through service. simcoe.ca, email service@simcoe.ca, or call the Service Simcoe Contact Centre by phone at 705-735-6901 between the hours of 8 a.m. to 5 p.m., Monday through Friday.

Bundling of brush is not required, but it’s preferred as it will help crews work faster to provide more efficient service.

If possible, sort your debris into larger and smaller brush piles.

All municipalities, including those in the severely impacted areas and those that make requests, must have their brush placed curbside no later than Monday, May 19 to ensure collection.

The county has also waived brush drop-off fees at all waste facilities until the end of June. Dropping off brush at a waste facility is the fastest way for residents to clear debris off their property. For all waste location details and hours, visit Simcoe.ca.
