SHEFFER, Lina Fera – in her 77th year, after a courageous battle with diabetes, heart, stroke, seizures, cancer, kidney disease, and Alzheimer dementia, entered into rest, peacefully on Tuesday, May 21, 2025 in her husband’s arms at their home in Wasaga Beach, Ontario, where she wanted to be at her end of life.

Lina is survived by many cousins and extended families in Canada, USA and Italia that she loved and tried to keep in touch with. Forever proud of her godchildren, Vincent D’Amico and Alexia Fazzari. And, she was gifted with an abundance of friends and wonderful neighbours.

Lina was born on September 24, 1947 in Cellara, Cosenza, Italia. At the tender age of five and a half years, she moved from family to live with and be educated by Our Lady of Sorrow Nuns in Rome and Coriano, Italia. She immigrated on board the MS Vulcania from Naples, landing at Pier 21, Halifax, Nova Scotia on April 10, 1961, and then travelled by rail to Northland Avenue in Toronto to join her father.

In 1969, when she met Joseph, she was working at three jobs. One of them at Radio City Theatre on Bathurst Street, Toronto with the Tucci family. Lina lived on Porterfield Road, Rexdale, from 1969 until moving to Collingwood in 1975. She then worked at Harding Carpet, LOF Glass and Magna (aka Lemerz, Reynold Aluminum), as a quality assurance inspector.

Lina projected her love through her cooking and flower gardens that were a show place in Trillium Forest. Joseph often said he was blessed with a wife who loved sports: curling, Team Homan; hockey, Leafs; soccer, TFC; football, Argos and Buffalo; baseball, Jays and Baycats; golf; boxing, always cheering the underdog; basketball, Raptors. Music was another passion and always playing in her home. She has met countless famous artists backstage and socially.

Above all of this was her strong Catholic faith, her Church and the gifts of the Lord’s blessings. She was the benefactor of a small Church being built in a remote area of southern Italia. Her husband will see this project to completion on her behalf.

A special thank you to the 46 doctors, plus the medical and nursing staff at the Royal Victoria Hospital in Barrie, Toronto General, Collingwood, Newmarket, Ontario Home & Health, Saint Elizabeth Health Care and Wasaga IDA, for your loving and compassionate care.
