Creemore welcomes summer with Solstice party
Creemore will welcome summer with its annual solstice party on Friday, June 20.
The free bash is presented by the Creemore BIA as a way of showcasing the village and celebrating community.
BIA president Nancy Johnston said she sees the event as a big community picnic with live music, dancing, and activities.
“It is a celebration to launch the summer season,” said Johnston. “Come down, it’s an annual event and people come every summer for great entertainment… meet your neighbours, bring your friends and family.”
The event takes place at Creemore Village Green and on Mill Street, a portion of which will be closed to vehicles to accommodate picnic tables and food vendors.
The Creemore Drumming Collective kicks off the celebration at 5 p.m. followed by an intro to line dancing with instructor Hope Bell Young at 6 p.m., and a performance by singer-songwriter Terra Lightfoot on the Village Green stage at 7:30 p.m.
Lightfoot’s newest album Higher Power was long listed for the 2025 Polaris Prize and was nominated for a Juno in the adult alternative album of the year category.
Throughout the evening there will be face-painting, a May pole dance, and the Creemore Horticultural Society will once again be making their very popular flower crowns.
Johnston said the event draws many families, so organizers have partnered with Clearview Public Library to offer children’s activities this year.
In terms of food, people are encouraged to purchase something from the local restaurants and food vendors that will be on site for the event, or bring a picnic.
There will be different options for both sweet and savoury foods, and the bar will be open and stocked with beer, wine, cider, and cocktails.
