Strada quarry commenting period open

 In News

The Township of Melancthon has been notified that the 60-day commenting period under the Aggregate Resources Act (ARA) for the Strada Aggregates Application for a quarry operation within its existing 360-acre sand and gravel pit, is open until Nov. 10.

During this commenting period, landowners and residents will have an opportunity to provide any concerns they may have to the applicant and Ministry of Natural Resources and Forestry. The applicant will have an opportunity to work with landowners and residents to resolve their concerns. At the end of the commenting process, landowners and residents will have an opportunity to confirm any concerns that have not been fully addressed. The MNRF may then refer any unresolved concerns or objections to the Ontario Land Tribunal for a hearing.

There is also an opportunity for members of the public to make comments on the Environmental Registry of Ontario (ERO) website. These comments are not generally referred to the OLT for a hearing, but may be considered by the MNRF in its own decision making process. This link can be found under Public Notices and on the Strada Aggregates page under Planning on the Township website.

An in-person public information session has been scheduled for Thursday, Oct. 9, from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. at the Horning’s Mills Community Hall, located at 14 Mill St.
