Farmers threatened by radar project

Editor:

As we were puttering in our shop, we heard the sound of a tractor with forage harvester and wagon turning into our field across the road. It was two of my neighbours coming to gather some of our surplus hay to feed their sheep this winter. As I walked over, I wondered if this would be the last opportunity to witness such an operation. Wish I had taken a picture.

All three of us are threatened by the DND radar project. The forage is going to a local property being refurbished to welcome those sheep from another farm elsewhere in Clearview. Are those refurbishments for naught. Or very little? Another neighbour asked, “What do we plant? Do we fix? How do we make this go away?”

We will go ahead with our fall harvest and planting intentions. The seed is here, most of it has been paid. Besides, we need the therapy of doing what we’ve enjoyed the last few decades.

Some lost their homes to forest fires this summer; some did not. If this fire comes upon us, there will be no home to which to return.

Ed Pridham,

Clearview.
