Call for recessed accessible bleacher seats
Editor:
I send my kudos to Clearview council for the consideration that they have given to a citizen led initiative, in this case the preservation of the bleacher character at the Gowan ballpark. While I have only lived in the area for a few decades, I, too, highly value the preservation of our regional heritage character. I would humbly request another consideration for the initiative that may correct past inattention – accessibility for our seniors and children/adults with mobility issues. If at all possible, could we design a section in the front row that would embrace those in wheelchairs or other mobility aides to sit with family, neighbours and friends rather than be left to the sides or stuck out exposed in front of the seating area? Perhaps a recessed central space in the front row with typical seating at the ‘wings’ or a folding back seat option in the front row? It may help include those in wheelchairs, so all members of the public, especially differently-abled children and those living in the nearby long-term care facility, can enjoy ‘watching the game,’ sitting with their friends, family, caregivers, and community.
Thank you for considering this suggestion.
