Locking in on reputation for having a big heart

On a recent trip to Toronto, Creemore resident Tricia Jeffery was inspired by a large heart bearing heart shaped locks and messages of love and hope outside Mount Sinai hospital.

Jeffery was in the city to visit Joan Gordon, who is undergoing cancer treatment there. She immediately thought that a village called Creemore (Gaelic for big heart) should definitely have such a monument.

“I snapped a picture and put it on Creemore Caremongering (Facebook page) and asked for help from the community,” says Jeffery. “Robert McArthur responded and said Craig Eskra would be just the guy to help.”

McArthur and Eskra donated the material and labour to construct the heart which was unveiled outside Station on the Green on the weekend.

Creemore Home Hardware is selling engravable heart shaped locks for $10 each, which Jeffery says is just to cover costs.

The heart will be more permanently installed in the spring, and Jeffery is hoping to add lighting.

Residents and visitors are invited to add their locks and post a picture on their social media.
