Protestors mark Fire Ford February with Sunday protests in Stayner
The Eco Guardians of Ontario are organizing a series of protests in Stayner during what is being dubbed Fire Ford February.
Protestors will be outside MPP Brian Saunderson’s Stayner office each Sunday afternoon in February.
Members of the Eco Guardians of Ontario, a local grassroots organization, is encouraging people to get involved and ask questions. Participants are invited to make a placard on any topic that resonates with them, be it endangered species, conservation authorities, Indigenous rights, Environmental Bill of Rights, Skills Fund scandal, Highway 413, Ontario Place, Science Centre, privatization of health care, affordable housing, long-term care, overcrowded classrooms, etc…
“The whole point of democracy, I think, is participation,” said Kathleen Knoll.
She said community conversations can build momentum.
“Getting involved at a grassroots community level makes it feel like you can affect some change. You feel like you can have some kind of impact,” she said. “We can’t just keep kicking all the problems down the road. It’s the next generation that has to pay. I think it’s about encouraging people to ask questions, take some responsibility and get involved in the process of democracy.”
Protestors will be gathering at 2 p.m. Sunday at 7317 ON-26, Stayner. Find the Eco Guardians of Ontario on Facebook.
