Fine art photographer Heidi Leverty exhibits in Creemore through June

Fine art photographer Heidi Leverty is returning to Creemore and unveiling her new series – Revolution.

In 2019 and 2021 Leverty expanded her reach to art enthusiasts by adding a main street, entrepreneurial element. These personal exhibitions took her to the heartland of Simcoe Country and proved successful.

“The decision to engage – one on one – with those interested in my work proved enormously satisfying,” she said. “I loved the experience of seeing people’s reaction to my work. It’s the reason I create – to share what I see and feel.”

Her time in Creemore was extremely positive and while this season’s show will be limited to June she is excited about her latest series – Revolution and looking forward to sharing the digital nostalgia it represents.

The ability to transition through mediums has been a constant for Leverty since graduating with honours in Fine Art Photography – Ontario College of Art. From mastering large format field cameras and developing her own prints, to elevating visual images through evolving photographic techniques, Leverty has continuously advanced her talent. Her work generates an experience. It elicits emotion, starts conversations and tempts the audience’s imagination.

“My most recent artistic series spun from Covid restrictions and my desire to explore and expand the digital landscape,” said Leverty. “I started with circles and the geometrical experimentation took me round and round until it eventually collided with a sound resonance. Memories fuelled by music of times filled with hope rolled back to me and into a visual collection I have called Revolution. The images burst with detail and colour, as the vinyl depictions pull one into a past era. The images clearly illustrate the collaboration between sight and sound. It’s time to see what you hear and hear what you see.”

Leverty’s work is well known on the national and international scene and until 2019 was offered exclusively through traditional shows and galleries.

Since 1991, Leverty’s work has been presented regularly in international and domestic galleries, magazines, and private collections. Most recently she was named to Giggster’s “Top Fine Art Photographers” list of 2021. Leverty’s work is included in the collection of the Canadian Foreign Affairs Department and featured at Canadian embassies in Seoul and Madrid. Leverty was chosen to represent Canada at the 2010 World Expo in Shanghai, China.

Her work will be on display at 151 Mill St. for the month of June, from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m., Thursday through Sunday.
