New stop signs, really unnecessary

I’d like to address the recent installation of the new stop signs in Creemore. As written by the Ministry of Transportation, a stop sign is located to help the direction of the right of way. I understand that there was an automatic counter put in place to count the number of vehicles using that intersection to determine if a stop sign is required. I guess my question is, who on Clearview council decided to place stop signs at the east end on Frances Street and Mary Street? These stop signs, in my opinion, were really not necessary and I question the reasoning behind it. I also question the new stop signs located at George Street and Mary Street. The highest traffic area, that I can tell, is Elizabeth Street and Mary Street in front of the nursing home where a lot of residents like to walk and sometimes with assistance and wheelchairs. If a stop sign needed to be placed along Mary Street, I feel that was the place that justified a new sign.

Perhaps Clearview Township can’t afford a plum or level to properly install these new signs, as they are not straight (up & down).

My father taught me how to install posts properly and I have installed many of these posts in my 30-plus years in business as a handyman. If they can’t be installed properly, why put them in at all?

Let’s look at the safety aspect; a new stop sign should have a warning stop sign four feet wide with the word “New Stop Sign Ahead” to forewarn people of the new sign.

I personally have driven through the stop sign and realized it after the fact.

I have seen several vehicles go through these news stop signs and even stop halfway through as they noticed the “new” sign then. How is this safe?

Does anyone else feel the same way?

Bob Ransier,

Creemore.
