Why not – Creemore?

 In Letters, Opinion

Editor:

Cat Flack’s letter suggested that Creemore should take some responsibility for its past actions. It’s a pretty fair message in light of the delayed development projects, the Creemore Inn zoning, and even the opposition to the Creemore Springs expansion. Tough medicine to swallow for some.

In some regards, the village is 20 years behind the times, shooting itself in the foot, and then bemoaning the eventual consequences.

In other regards, the village is home to a number of  entrepreneurs who bat well over the average, who selflessly work together to grow everyone’s business through festivals, who grow with and embrace the Amazon challenge, and create valuable brands from nothing. Retail is anything but easy.

One group is 20 years behind the times, one is 20 minutes ahead. One group says ‘Why?’ : The other says ‘Why not?’.

Which brings us to the Nottawasaga and Creemore Public School Annex – currently a multi million dollar dog walking facility. It sits zoned and waiting for tax funded museum, an enterprising buggy whip business, or perhaps Polaroid will set up shop there. We are told that residential options are not on the table because the building lies in a flood plain. This just in… the entire village lies in a flood plain.

C’mon Creemore, let’s get creative – Why not a residential option – Mixed use facilities can work very well. Why not keep people living, and working, (and shopping as Bob Ransier suggests) in the village. Why not?

Phil Richmond,

Creemore.
