Gowan Park Pavilion price on the rise

The replacement of the Gowan Park pavilion in Creemore will cost more than expected.

The lowest bid came in at $193,125.70, which was approved by council Monday, and the highest bid came in at $305,770.

Council budgeted $150,000 in 2017 for a new 25-by-75 foot, 1,875 square foot pavilion with storage, a serving counter, and two accessible washrooms.

“To date, the township has used the budget funds for the design and tender of the project along with the cost of removal of the existing pavilion and storage building. The construction costs of the pavilion itself will exceed the budgeted funds. However, this year there are some budgeted projects that we were not able to complete such as the painting of the Stayner Arena ceiling beams and the replacement of the arena boards. As such, the pavilion can be funded within the existing Parks and Recreation capital budget,” reported Clearview Township director of community services Mara Burton.

She reported that awarding the contract to Consolidated, the lowest bidder, is dependent on reference checks, otherwise the contract would be awarded to Cherokee at a cost of $235,921.40.
