Falsified ads make gripe even more petty

 In Letters, Opinion

Editor:

Is false advertising okay now?

Judging from the full page ads being taken out by the “Preserve the Escarpment” folks, I’d say the answer is yes.

In the last two issues of The Creemore Echo these full page ads have included Photoshopped images. One showing a traffic jam in a forested area that is clearly nowhere near the Niagara Escarpment and the most recent one, a falsified Clearview tax bill.

Now, to be clear, I have no issue with taking out ads to solicit participation or to voice an opinion. However when organizations start making accusations using photos that have been falsified, I would say that they, and by extension The Echo, are breaking the ethical boundary. And putting “Photo Illustration” in small print doesn’t change or legalize the falsehood.

People! You don’t need to stoop to such levels to make your point. Rather it makes your gripe even more petty.
