Duntroon Hall looking for community input

 In Letters, Opinion

Fellow Duntroonians,

Have you ever noticed that it’s very easy to accidentally type Funtroon instead of Duntroon? We, at the Duntroon Hall, would like to make this typo a reality. Why travel to the big city of Collingwood when you can leave the car at home and stroll over to the Hall for some fun activities and social opportunities with your neighbours?

We have a few ideas, including yoga classes and movie nights, but we are reaching out to you, our fellow residents, to see what would serve you and your interests. No guarantees that we can make it happen, but we will definitely take all suggestions into consideration.

Additionally, what would you think of a small coffee shop being made available in the downstairs of the Hall? Would you drop in and chat with neighbours over a coffee? Maybe meet up for a hand of cards or a round of bowling?

Please email me your thoughts to roztenten@gmail.com.

Roz Campbell,

Duntroon.

    Dear Editor:

Gobsmacked that it was a unanimous decision to go ahead with this costly folly.
From you own paper in Nov 2016.. The Avening hall estimate was mid $250K when in reality, the lowest bid was over $600K. Now the ‘guesstimate”‘ has ballooned to over 2.5X that figure in six years!
Two other observations pertaining to this issue:
    1) If these halls are so viable to the life of the community…why did sitting councillors Measures, Paterson and Walker happily unload the New Lowell hall in 2010?
    2) in the estimate for the Nottawa Hall, why isn’t the $450K that WE the taxpayers have already spent to turn a former house into a parking lot not mentioned?

    Tapped out taxpayer
