OPP welcome to easy pickings in Dunedin

While I was happy to read that the OPP was out catching stunt drivers on Highway 26 on the weekend, I can’t help but wonder why we can’t get them here in Dunedin for an afternoon, especially in light of all the recent accidents.

Any inquiries have been met with a claim of “not enough manpower.” Residents and the township have done all we can to discourage speeding, but there will always be people who think the laws don’t apply to them.

It’s time for some enforcement of these speed limits.

The OPP’s time would be spent much more efficiently here in Dunedin. Only three stunt drivers in four hours? Heck, we could get you three stunt drivers in three minutes, especially if you happen to catch a pack of “crotch rockets” coming through town. Considering that in speed zones under 80 km/hr, a driver doing 40km over the limit is considered to be stunt driving, drivers would “only” need to be doing 90 km/hr through the village. On a busy weekend, that’s easy pickings here in Dunedin. I would think a few hours of the OPP’s time spent enforcing the limit is much preferable to a few hours of cleaning up yet another potentially deadly accident on our busy road.

Jenn Jansen,

Dunedin.
